Study Description

The Parental-Child Attachment—Rochester Youth Development Study (PCARYDS-22) is a research tool developed as part of the Rochester Youth Development Study, aimed at assessing the quality of attachment between parents and children. This scale consists of 22 items that focus on various dimensions of the parent-child relationship, such as trust, communication, and feelings of alienation. Participants respond to the items using a Likert scale ranging from “Never” to “Always.”

Data Analysis and Use

Data analysis for the PCARYDS-22 involves recording scores for each attachment dimension as well as an overall score. These data are used to examine the relationship between attachment quality and various outcomes related to children’s psychological and social development. This tool is used in longitudinal studies to investigate the impact of parental attachment on risk behaviors, academic performance, and overall adjustment during adolescence.

Objective

The objective of the PCARYDS-22 is to provide a reliable and valid tool for assessing parental attachment in children and adolescents. Through this tool, researchers can better understand the significance of the parent-child relationship in psychosocial development and the prevention of undesirable behaviors.

Calibration

Calibration of the PCARYDS-22 is conducted using data from large and representative population groups. This process includes evaluating the internal consistency and reliability of the scale, as well as comparing the results with other related scales to ensure the validity of the measurements.
