The Goal Orientation Scales (GOS) are psychometric tools used to assess how individuals approach goal achievement. These scales measure whether a person is primarily focused on learning and skill development or on performance and results in specific activities.

Objective

The GOS aim to: Evaluate individuals’ approach to goal achievement, Differentiate between learning-oriented and performance-oriented goal setting, Provide insights into motivation, effort, and personal development strategies.

Calibration

The scales assess different goal orientation types, including: Learning Orientation – Focus on developing new skills and mastery, Performance Orientation – Focus on achieving high performance and demonstrating competence, Avoidance Orientation – Focus on avoiding failure and negative judgments. Responses are collected using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree, 5 = Strongly Agree).
