Scale Analysis
The Gala Motives Scale (GalaMot-65) was developed by Galanakis and Stalikas in 2009 as a tool for assessing work-related motivation through 65 self-report statements. Participants respond to a set of propositions that reflect motivational factors in the workplace.
Purpose of the Scale
The goal of the GalaMot-65 is to investigate motivational drivers in the workplace. The scale is based on the distinction between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, as well as job satisfaction related to motivational engagement.
Question Scoring
The scale consists of 65 statements. Participants indicate their level of agreement on a five-point Likert scale ranging from 1 (Strongly disagree) to 5 (Strongly agree), based on how well each item reflects their views. The scale contains two subscales. The first subscale includes 56 items and assesses the type of motivation that drives employees across eight dimensions: financial rewards, leadership, work environment, teamwork and collegial relationships, ease of task execution, pressure, opportunities for advancement, and integrity. The second subscale includes 9 items and assesses the employee’s satisfaction at the time of assessment.
Statistical Analysis
Each item is scored from 1 to 5, with some items reverse-coded. Scores across the 65 items are summed to produce a total motivation score for each participant, indicating their overall motivational level.
Validity and Reliability
The GalaMot-65 has been standardized on a nationwide sample of employees from various professions in Greece. It has demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency reliability (α = 0.85). The scale also shows adequate face, concurrent, construct, content, and criterion validity.
