Questionnaire Analysis
The Spirituality and Religiousness Questionnaire [SpREUK-SF-15] was developed in 2005 by Büssing and colleagues at the University of Witten/Herdecke. It consists of 15 questions and is aimed at patients with chronic illnesses.
Objective of the Questionnaire
The primary goal of the questionnaire is to explore how patients with chronic diseases rely on spirituality as a source of coping with their illness. Therefore, the SpREUK-SF-15 was designed to assess the level of spirituality and religiousness in these specific patients.
Question Scoring
The questions in this particular questionnaire are categorized into three groups. Specifically, the first category relates to the patient’s intention to access a spiritual/religious resource that may be beneficial in managing their illness. The second category pertains to the patient’s trust in the religious source, while the third concerns satisfaction with life.
Statistical Analysis
After completing the questionnaire, a total score is calculated, which helps determine whether a patient relies on spirituality to cope with their illness. In particular, the higher the score, the greater the degree of spirituality/religiousness the patient demonstrates.
Reliability and Validity
The [SpREUK-SF-15] Questionnaire is considered valid in effectively measuring the religiousness/spirituality of patients with chronic diseases. Regarding reliability, the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient ranges from 0.86 to 0.91.
