Questionnaire Description

The PALPA (Psycholinguistic Assessments of Language Processing in Aphasia) is a psycholinguistic assessment scale designed to evaluate language processing in individuals with acquired aphasia. It includes 60 subtests that examine aspects of language such as orthography, phonology, morphology, semantics, and syntax through word and image processing. Each subtest focuses on a different domain of language function and has been adapted to the Greek linguistic context to ensure maximum accuracy and validity.

Data Analysis and Use

The data analysis was based on a sample of approximately 100 adults, aged between 15 and 90, without aphasic disorders. Participants completed the subtests to establish typical linguistic performance patterns, which serve as a reference point for assessing individuals with aphasia. The data are presented through statistical analyses, and all 60 subtests are accompanied by sample responses for comparison. The use of this data enables clinicians to identify the nature and severity of the language impairment and to tailor the appropriate intervention.

Objective

The objective of PALPA is to serve as a psycholinguistic assessment tool that allows clinicians and researchers to investigate the specific aspects of language processing in patients with aphasia. It also contributes to a better understanding of the disorder by focusing on different levels of linguistic processing and using contemporary theoretical models to interpret the results. Furthermore, it provides guidance for selecting the appropriate therapeutic strategy aimed at targeted intervention.

Calibration

The calibration of the tool was based on administering the 60 subtests to a population without language disorders and analyzing the results statistically. The evaluation includes descriptive statistical data for each subtest, along with response samples. The adaptation was carefully carried out to ensure conceptual accuracy in modern Greek, taking into account linguistic and cultural characteristics.
