Description

The Need for Relatedness at College Questionnaire (NRC-Q) is a tool that assesses the emotional connection and social interaction needs of university students. The revised version of the NRC-Q has been modified to examine more closely students’ need for social connection and support within the university environment.
The scale includes questions that assess:
Sense of Belonging: The feeling of being part of social groups or communities at the university.
Support: The perception of adequate emotional and social support from peers, professors, and other students.
Social Interaction: The quality and frequency of social interactions and relationships students engage in.
Tolerance and Emotional Connection: The student’s ability to emotionally connect with others and to feel understood and accepted.

Purpose

The main goals of the NRC-Q Revised Version are:
Assessment of the Need for Connection: To measure students’ need for emotional connection and social interaction.
Understanding Psychological Well-Being: To examine how the need for social connection affects psychological well-being and academic performance.
Analysis of Social Relationships: To explore how social relationships influence the sense of belonging and perceived support at the university.
Support Evaluation: To assess students’ satisfaction with the support they receive and how this relates to their academic and social experiences.

Analysis

Data analysis from the NRC-Q Revised Version includes:
Reliability: Measured using Cronbach’s alpha to determine the internal consistency of the scale.
Factor Analysis: Used to identify key dimensions of the need for connection, such as belongingness and social support.
Correlations: Examines the relationships between connection scores and other variables such as psychological well-being, academic performance, and social satisfaction.

Scoring

Scoring for the NRC-Q Revised Version includes:
Questionnaires: Participants respond to items using Likert-type or other rating scales to evaluate their sense of connection and support.
Total Scores: Overall scores are calculated for the various dimensions of the need for connection, and differences are analyzed across different groups or conditions.
Dimension Analysis: Key dimensions included in the scale are examined to understand each dimension’s effect on the overall need for connection.
