Questionnaire Description

The Modified Parkinson Activity Scale (MPAS) consists of 10 individual items and is designed to assess the effectiveness of movements performed by individuals with Parkinson’s disease. The scale is divided into four main categories: chair transfers, gait akinesia, bed mobility, and bed mobility with a blanket. Each category is scored on a scale from 0 to 4, where a score of 4 represents a task completed without any difficulty.

Data Analysis and Use

The MPAS is used as an observational tool, either through direct observation or via a questionnaire, to identify difficulties in basic motor functions. The collection of data enables the quantitative assessment of motor performance, monitoring of progress over time, and evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions such as physiotherapy or pharmacological treatment. The data can be analyzed by item, category, or overall score, and can be used for both research and clinical purposes.

Objective

The objective of the MPAS is to provide an objective evaluation of mobility in patients with Parkinson’s disease. It aims to detect areas of functional difficulty, support clinical decision-making regarding interventions, document progress or deterioration over time, and enhance the communication between therapist and patient through targeted questions.

Scoring

Each of the 10 items in the questionnaire is rated on a scale from 0 to 4, where 0 indicates an inability to perform the task and 4 indicates that the task is completed without any difficulty or assistance. The intermediate scores (1 to 3) reflect gradually increasing levels of functionality, with or without support. The total score ranges from 0 to 40, with higher scores reflecting better motor performance.
