Brief Description

The CPAS-GR is the Greek adaptation of the California Psychotherapy Alliance Scale – Revised and is designed to assess the therapeutic alliance. The tool includes three subscales derived from factor analysis: (1) therapist’s involvement and participation, (2) client’s commitment to the therapeutic work, and (3) client’s positive and meaningful contribution.

Purpose

The aim of the questionnaire is to systematically measure and evaluate the quality of the therapeutic relationship, as expressed through the collaboration and commitment of both therapist and client.

Scoring Method

Raters score each item on a seven-point scale, where 1 = “Not at all well” and 7 = “Very well.” The score reflects the degree of agreement or disagreement with the statements in the questionnaire, providing an overall picture for each of the three subscales.

Validity

The validity of the CPAS-GR is supported by evidence of face, content, and construct validity. Criterion validity could not be investigated due to the absence of equivalent questionnaires in Greek.

Reliability

Inter-rater reliability was found to be satisfactory, with statistically significant correlations between the ratings of three raters for all 18 sessions assessed (ranging from 0.57 to 0.80).

Data Analysis and Use

Data are analyzed based on the mean scores of the subscales and their comparison across different time points in therapy or between different therapists/clients. The questionnaire is used for research purposes, evaluation of therapeutic processes, and improvement of the quality of the psychotherapeutic relationship.
