Analysis

The School Mindfulness Scale (SMS) is a tool designed to assess the level of mindfulness experienced by students within their school environment. Mindfulness refers to the ability to be fully present and aware of experiences in the present moment without judgment. The SMS focuses on evaluating mindfulness related to the school setting, such as students’ attention, concentration, and emotional awareness.

Objective

The main objective of the SMS is to provide a quantitative assessment of students’ mindfulness under school conditions. Its purpose is to identify levels of mindfulness that may influence academic performance, social interaction, and students’ psychological well-being. The tool also aims to assist educators and researchers in understanding how mindfulness strategies can be integrated into the school curriculum to enhance the learning process and the overall school climate.

Calibration

The SMS typically consists of a series of statements or questions related to various aspects of mindfulness, with students asked to rate how often they experience these states or feelings. Responses are scored on a Likert scale, usually from 1 (very rarely) to 5 (very often). Overall scores can be compared to identify students’ levels of mindfulness. Scores may also be compared against guidelines or standards established by relevant studies or validation research.
