Description of the Questionnaire

The New Freezing of Gait Questionnaire (NFOG-Q) is a specialized assessment tool designed to record and understand the phenomenon of freezing of gait, which primarily affects individuals with Parkinson’s disease. The NFOG-Q is the revised version of the original FOG-Q, expanding the number of items from 6 to 9 to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of the phenomenon. The questionnaire is only completed if the first question is answered positively. If the respondent is unfamiliar with the term “freezing,” a video link is provided to help explain the concept and the associated motor disturbance.

Data Analysis and Usage

The data collected through the NFOG-Q are used for clinical evaluation of the severity of freezing episodes, for planning individualized interventions aimed at improving patients’ mobility, for assessing the effectiveness of therapeutic approaches such as medication and physiotherapy, and for research purposes in the fields of neurology and kinesiology. The responses are quantified, allowing for comparisons over time or between different patient populations.

Purpose

The purpose of the NFOG-Q is to detect and quantitatively assess the freezing phenomenon in individuals with Parkinson’s disease. The questionnaire aims to objectively document the frequency, intensity, and impact of freezing on daily functioning, ultimately supporting therapeutic planning and guiding targeted interventions tailored to the individual needs of each patient.

Scoring

The NFOG-Q consists of 9 questions, which are scored based on the frequency and severity of freezing episodes as reported by the respondent. The total score is calculated by summing the individual responses, with higher scores indicating a more severe form of freezing. The first question serves as a screening filter; only if it is answered positively does the respondent proceed to complete the rest of the questionnaire.
