Description

The Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ) is an assessment instrument used to evaluate hand function and treatment outcomes in individuals with hand-related conditions, including injuries, postoperative conditions, and chronic disorders. The Dutch-language version enables its use in Dutch-speaking populations.

Analysis

The MHQ provides a multidimensional assessment of hand health. It evaluates hand function, pain, sensation, aesthetics and appearance, and psychological impact, offering a broader view of how hand-related conditions affect daily functioning and well-being.

Objective

The main objective of the MHQ is to provide a quantitative assessment of hand function, pain, and their impact on everyday life. It can also be used to monitor changes over time and evaluate treatment or rehabilitation outcomes.

Scoring

Scoring is based on the patient’s responses across the different MHQ domains. Separate domain scores provide an overall picture of hand status, functional limitations, and the impact of the condition on quality of life.
