Analysis
The Modern Homonegativity Scale (MHS) is a psychometric tool designed to assess contemporary forms of prejudice and negative attitudes toward homosexuals. The scale focuses on understanding the more subtle and indirect forms of homophobia that may appear in social and cultural perceptions.
Purpose
The purpose of the scale is:
Assessment of Contemporary Attitudes: To measure modern attitudes and perceptions that are not openly hostile but incorporate negative feelings or prejudices toward homosexuals.
Understanding Cultural Perceptions: To explore how social and cultural perceptions influence the understanding and acceptance of homosexuality.
Support for Educational Interventions: To promote the development of educational programs aimed at combating prejudice and strengthening social acceptance.
Enhancement of Social Awareness: To encourage awareness regarding the effects of homonegativity on social relationships and the mental health of homosexual individuals.
Calibration
The calibration of the scale is based on statements that assess participants’ attitudes toward homosexuals. A Likert scale from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree) is used, where participants evaluate how much they agree or disagree with each statement. The total scores reflect the level of modern homonegativity.
