Scale Analysis

The MAAS scale was developed by Brown and Ryan in 2003 and is designed to assess a key characteristic of mindfulness: a state of mind in which the mind’s attention simply observes what is happening.

Purpose

The MAAS was created with the goal of evaluating the extent to which mindfulness promotes psychological well-being and how it is related to self-awareness and individual attention.

Question Calibration

The scale consists of 15 questions, which include statements referring to how often participants felt they had experiences related to the questions, such as “I find myself doing things without paying attention.” The response is given on a 6-point Likert scale from 1 (almost always) to 6 (almost never).

Statistical Analysis

Participants are asked to respond to 15 questions using a Likert scale, answering based on how frequently they find themselves engaging in the described behavior. The total score of the scale is calculated by the average of the 15 responses provided.

Validity and Reliability

The scale demonstrated acceptable internal consistency with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.88.
