Analysis and Purpose of the Test
The Gala Self-Esteem Test (GSET-50) was developed by Swiatkewicz, Galanakis, and Stalikas in 2006. The GSET-50 is a self-report scale aimed at measuring and evaluating self-esteem in adults. It serves as a diagnostic tool for assessing the level of self-esteem and self-sufficiency.
Question Scoring
The Gala Self-Esteem Test includes 50 questions related to self-esteem, which are answered using a 5-point Likert scale ranging from 1 (does not describe me at all) to 5 (describes me completely). The questions are divided into eight subscales. These subscales are: fulfillment of personal needs, independence, self-confidence, dealing with challenges, perseverance and patience, personal self-esteem (which refers to the individual’s perception of their personal worth), social self-esteem, and the individual’s perception of the relationships they have formed with others.
Statistical Analysis
The test is evaluated in a simple and comprehensible way. A numerical index is calculated as the sum of the scores from each individual item, with the participant’s points being totaled in order to determine the overall score, the maximum of which is 250. However, there are also reverse-scored items to ensure a more representative and realistic depiction of the participant’s self-esteem.
Validity and Reliability
The Self-Esteem Test has been standardized in the Greek language by Galanakis and Stalikas. It demonstrates good face validity and internal consistency reliability, with a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.89 for the entire scale.
