Scoring
The Gregorc Style Delineator (GSD) consists of 40 self-report statements, organized into 10 groups of four descriptors, with each descriptor representing one of the four cognitive styles.
For each group, participants select one statement that best describes their natural preferences and habitual way of thinking. Every selected statement contributes one point to the corresponding cognitive style.
At the completion of the questionnaire, the total number of selections is calculated separately for each of the four styles:
- Concrete Sequential (CS)
- Abstract Sequential (AS)
- Abstract Random (AR)
- Concrete Random (CR)
Each style has a maximum possible score of 10. Scores are often converted into percentages and ranked from highest to lowest to identify the participant’s dominant, secondary, tertiary, and least-preferred cognitive styles.
Higher scores indicate a stronger preference for the corresponding cognitive style, reflecting characteristic patterns of information processing, learning, communication, and decision-making. Rather than categorizing individuals into rigid personality types, the GSD recognizes that most people demonstrate varying degrees of all four cognitive styles, with one or two typically emerging as dominant.
