Analysis
SPPA-IV is the Greek version for high school students of the Self-Perception Profile for Adolescents by Susan Harter, adapted by E. Makri-Botsari. It is suitable for use with students approximately aged 16 to 18 years. The domains of the original questionnaire were retained, except for the “job competence” domain, which was replaced with the “work readiness” domain. Additionally, new subdomains of self-perception were added, and the original self-esteem scale was replaced by a similar one from Rosenberg. All modifications were made with Harter’s approval.
Purpose
The SPPA-IV is used to assess the self-esteem of high school students. It includes twelve psychometric scales and eleven specific self-perception domains.
Scoring
The questionnaire consists of 65 items. For each item, the student is asked to choose between two alternative statements—the one that best represents them—and then rate it on a scale from 1 to 4.
Statistical Analysis
The average score for each scale indicates the student’s level of self-perception and self-esteem.
Validity and Reliability
Various types of validity were tested (e.g., construct, discriminant, concurrent). Factor analysis revealed twelve factors, which explain 56.2% of the total variance.
Internal consistency reliability indices (Cronbach’s alpha) range from 0.70 to 0.85.
