Analysis
The Questionnaire on Optimal Experience (QOOE) is used to measure individuals’ subjective experiences during activities perceived as optimal or ideal. The concept of optimal experience, also known as “flow”, was developed by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and refers to a psychological state where a person is fully immersed in an activity, experiencing total focus and enjoyment.
Purpose
The goal of the QOOE is to assess the flow state during various activities. The questionnaire examines the core dimensions that define flow, such as:
Intense concentration
Sense of control
Loss of sense of time
Intrinsic motivation
Satisfaction
Clear goals
Immediate feedback
Scoring
The QOOE includes a series of statements covering the above dimensions. These are rated on a Likert scale (typically 5- or 7-point), ranging from:
1 = Never
up to
5 or 7 = Always
Higher scores indicate a stronger presence of flow-related experiences.
