Questionnaire Analysis

The Nursing Care Assessment Questionnaire (Nursing Dimensions Inventory questionnaire [GR-NDI]) was developed in 2003 by a research team led by Watson and originally included 35 questions. However, after its adaptation to Greek data, the NDI-35 evolved into the GR-NDI-24 through the work of Kotrotsiou’s team in 2014.

Purpose

The purpose of the Nursing Care Assessment Questionnaire is to examine and evaluate respondents’ perceptions regarding the three core indicators of nursing care: Clinical Work, Patient Needs, and Overall Nursing Care.

Question Calibration

The GR-NDI questionnaire consists of 24 items, each rated on a 5-point Likert scale from 1 (very important) to 5 (not at all important), indicating how important each item is for participants in their nursing practice. The GR-NDI-24 yields two subscales, representing the dimensions of nursing care: “Clinical Work” with 17 items and “Patient Needs” with 7 items.

Statistical Analysis

Each subscale is measured independently by summing the scores of the individual statements. The total score of the scale ranges from 24 to 120. Specifically, the “Clinical Work” subscale ranges from 17 to 85 and the “Patient Needs” subscale from 7 to 35. A lower score reflects a higher perceived importance of the corresponding dimension of nursing care.

Validity and Reliability

The Nursing Dimensions Inventory (NDI) is internationally recognized in the literature as a reliable and valid self-assessment tool for measuring perceptions of nursing care. The factorial validity and internal reliability of the Greek version GR-NDI-24 are acceptable, allowing for further study of its properties in a larger, representative, and randomly selected sample to better understand the attitudes and care norms of Greek nurses.
