Description of the Questionnaire
This questionnaire is based on the Melba tool, a recognized assessment system used for recording, analyzing, and communicating information about work-related capacities and job compatibility, especially for individuals with disabilities or changing abilities. The Melba system is built around 29 core competencies and generates two types of profiles: a capacity profile and a job requirement profile. These profiles can be used independently or in combination to enable accurate matching between individuals and job positions. The tool is designed to be reliable and objective, with applications across various fields such as vocational rehabilitation, personnel selection, return-to-work programs, and sustainable employability.
Data Analysis and Use
The data analysis relies on a rating scale from 1 to 5, where level 3 represents the average skill level of a typical Dutch worker or an average job role in the Netherlands. Scores below 3 indicate limited capacity, while scores above 3 reflect enhanced abilities. Data is collected through observation or the use of the questionnaire by trained assessors. These data are then used to inform decisions regarding job placement, the design of employability-enhancement interventions, and improvements to working conditions.
Objective
The main objective of the questionnaire is the systematic assessment of individuals’ work-related abilities, particularly those with functional limitations, and the matching of those abilities to the demands of specific job roles. This process facilitates work integration or reintegration, adapts job roles to individual capabilities, and promotes sustainable employment.
Calibration
Calibration within the Melba system is based on a numerical scale from 1 to 5. Level 3 represents the average capacity of a worker in the Netherlands. Evaluations are conducted by specialists and are based on either direct observation or individual responses to the questionnaire. The process is standardized to ensure the reliability and comparability of results.
