Analysis
The APS-R is analyzed using statistical methods such as factor analysis to confirm the structure and validity of the tool. Factor analysis has shown that the APS-R consists of three main dimensions: High Standards – The tendency to set and pursue high personal goals. Discrepancy – The distress experienced due to the failure to meet these high standards. Perfectionistic Strivings – A tendency toward perfectionism, which can be either adaptive or maladaptive.
Objective
The primary objective of the APS-R is to measure perfectionism and distinguish between its adaptive and maladaptive components. Specifically, the tool helps researchers better understand how perfectionism affects psychological well-being, academic performance, and other important aspects of life.
Calibration
APS-R calibration involves calculating the total score for each subscale. Participants rate various statements, and their responses are aggregated to create an overall score for each dimension. Higher scores on the High Standards subscale indicate a stronger tendency toward perfectionism. Higher scores on the Discrepancy subscale indicate greater distress due to unmet goals.
