Scale-Description

The Kutcher Generalized Social Anxiety Disorder Scale for Adolescents (K-GSADS-A) is an assessment tool designed to measure generalized social anxiety disorder (GSAD) in adolescents. It is a specialized version of the Kutcher Generalized Social Anxiety Disorder Scale, adapted to meet the needs of younger populations, and consists of 8 items. These items are derived from the original 21-item BAS DEP scale, specifically items 1, 3, 6, 10, 11, 18, 19, and 21 from the BAS DEP.

Data Analysis and Usage

Data from the K-GSADS-A are analyzed by calculating a total score that reflects the level of social anxiety disorder in the adolescent. Responses to the items are aggregated to produce a total score, which is then used to assess the severity of the disorder and track progress.
Statistical methods used in the analysis may include factor analysis to confirm the scale’s structure, and reliability assessments (e.g., Cronbach’s alpha) and validity checks. ROC analysis might be used to evaluate the scale’s discriminative ability.

Purpose

The primary goal of the K-GSADS-A is to provide a reliable and valid method for assessing generalized social anxiety disorder in adolescents. The scale aims to accurately diagnose and categorize the severity of the disorder, assisting clinicians in designing appropriate interventions and treatments for adolescents affected by social anxiety.

Calibration

Calibration of the K-GSADS-A involves validation through comparisons with other established scales and diagnostic tools for social anxiety disorder. Scales often used for comparison include the Social Anxiety Disorder Scale (SADS) and other social anxiety assessment tools.
Calibration also involves collecting data from studies that evaluate the scale’s reliability (e.g., internal consistency) and validity. Important aspects of calibration include structural validity, criterion validity, and sensitivity to change.
