Analysis

The Brief Abuse Screen for the Elderly (BASE) was developed by Dr. Lisa Nerenberg and her team to enable the rapid detection of abuse in older adults. This tool assesses various forms of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual, and financial exploitation, as well as neglect.

Objective

The objective of the BASE is to provide a quick and reliable means of identifying abuse among the elderly, thereby supporting efforts for early intervention and prevention.

Scoring

The BASE includes a series of questions that evaluate the experiences of abuse among older individuals across different dimensions. Participants are asked to respond based on their recent experiences using a yes/no scale.
