Description
The Padua Inventory – Washington State University Revision (PI-WSUR) is a revised version of the original Padua Inventory, designed to measure obsessive-compulsive symptoms. The PI-WSUR was developed at Washington State University to improve the reliability and validity of the original questionnaire, providing a detailed assessment of OCD symptoms.
Objective
The main goal of the PI-WSUR is to evaluate the various dimensions of obsessive-compulsive symptoms in individuals. It is used both in clinical practice for the diagnosis and monitoring of OCD, as well as in research for a better understanding of symptoms and the underlying factors of the disorder.
Analysis
The PI-WSUR includes 39 statements that cover five main dimensions of obsessive-compulsive symptoms:
Intrusive thoughts: Unwanted and distressing thoughts that invade the mind.
Contamination worry: Fears and concerns about dirt and contamination.
Checking: Repetitive checks to ensure that actions have been correctly performed.
Impulses: The urge to carry out inappropriate or paradoxical acts.
Relentless doubt: Persistent doubt about the correctness of one’s actions and thoughts.
Participants are asked to respond to each statement using a Likert scale from 0 (never) to 4 (always), indicating the frequency and severity of their symptoms.
Scoring
The total PI-WSUR score is calculated by summing the scores of the individual statements. The overall score can range from 0 to 156, with higher scores indicating greater severity of obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Subscale scores provide additional information about specific dimensions of OCD.
