Brief Description
Description
The Relationships Questionnaire [RSQ-4] is a brief measure of adult attachment style. It includes four self-descriptions corresponding to the attachment styles proposed by Bartholomew and Horowitz: secure, preoccupied, dismissing-avoidant, and fearful-avoidant.
Purpose
The RSQ-4 is designed to assess attachment patterns in close interpersonal relationships and to identify the relational style that best characterizes the individual.
Scoring
The respondent first selects the one description that best represents their relational style. Then, all four descriptions are rated on a 7-point scale, from 1 = “not at all” to 7 = “very much.”
Psychometric Properties
Validity is supported by associations with other attachment measures, including the Experiences in Close Relationships – Revised (ECR-R). No official internal consistency coefficients, such as Cronbach’s alpha, are reported for this version.
Applications
The RSQ-4 can be used in research on adult attachment, close relationships, and interpersonal functioning, as well as in psychotherapeutic assessment and educational interventions.
