Osteo-combinorm

Description

The Osteo-combinorm is a physical activity assessment framework associated with the Dutch guideline for osteoporosis. It incorporates the Dutch Healthy Exercise Standard (Nederlandse Norm Gezond Bewegen – NNGB) and combines elements of the fit standard and the combinorm.

The instrument is primarily intended for adults and older adults and focuses on physical activity, mobility, and exercise behaviours relevant to musculoskeletal and bone health.

Objective

The main objective of the Osteo-combinorm is to determine whether an individual meets recommended levels of health-enhancing physical activity, with additional emphasis on exercise relevant to maintaining functional capacity and musculoskeletal health.

Assessment

According to the Osteo-combinorm, an individual meets the standard when the requirements of both the NNGB and the fit standard are satisfied, with specific adaptations.

In particular, physical activity should include functional strength training at least twice per week, incorporating exercises for the lower extremities.

The framework also includes the NNGB test form and flowchart to support systematic assessment.

Target Population

The Osteo-combinorm is primarily intended for adults and older adults. Its focus on mobility, physical activity, and lower-extremity functional strength makes it particularly relevant in contexts involving osteoporosis and other musculoskeletal conditions.

Data Analysis and Interpretation

Assessment focuses on whether participants meet the specified physical activity and exercise recommendations.

Results can therefore be used to classify individuals according to their adherence to the relevant activity standards and to examine physical activity patterns within research or clinical populations.

Applications

The Osteo-combinorm may be used in physical activity assessment, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, osteoporosis management, and musculoskeletal health research.

It can support the evaluation of activity and exercise behaviours and help identify whether individuals achieve recommended levels of health-enhancing and functional physical activity.
