Analysis

The Social Competence Scale — Parent Version (SCS-PV) is an assessment tool designed to measure children’s social competence from the parents’ perspective. This questionnaire is often used in research and clinical applications to evaluate children’s social skills and social behavior, such as their ability to cooperate, demonstrate empathy, and maintain positive peer relationships. The SCS-PV is structured in a self-report format, where parents are asked to respond to a series of questions regarding their children’s behavior and interactions.

Objective

The main objective of the SCS-PV is to provide a reliable and valid measure of children’s social skills from the viewpoint of their parents. This allows researchers and health professionals to gain a better understanding of children’s social interactions and social development. By using this tool, areas in need of intervention or reinforcement can be identified, contributing to the improvement of children’s social skills and the promotion of positive social behavior.

Calibration

Calibration of the SCS-PV is carried out using a Likert scale, where parents are asked to rate the frequency or intensity of their children’s behavior in various situations. Typically, the scale ranges from 1 (never) to 5 (always). Parents’ responses are aggregated and analyzed to produce overall scores representing the child’s social competence. Higher scores indicate greater social competence, while lower scores point to areas that may require improvement. The reliability and validity of the tool are ensured through extensive research testing and statistical analyses.
