Report Description

The Personal Report of Intercultural Communication Apprehension (PRICA) is an assessment tool designed to measure the anxiety individuals experience when communicating with people from different cultures. Developed by James C. McCroskey, it is a specialized tool that extends the concept of communication anxiety into the intercultural domain.

Data Analysis and Use

The analysis of responses to the PRICA involves evaluating answers to a series of statements related to intercultural communication. The responses are typically scored on a five-point Likert scale (from 1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree). The statements assess individuals’ reactions to intercultural communication situations, including their comfort and confidence levels.

Objective

The objective of PRICA is to identify and measure the level of anxiety an individual feels when communicating with people from different cultures. This measurement can help researchers and professionals understand the challenges individuals face in intercultural communication situations and develop strategies to reduce this anxiety.

Calibration

The calibration of PRICA involves calculating an overall score that indicates the level of intercultural communication anxiety. The overall score can be categorized as follows:
• Low level of intercultural communication anxiety: The individual feels comfortable and has little to no concerns when communicating with people from different cultures.
• Moderate level of intercultural communication anxiety: The individual experiences some concerns and difficulties in communicating with people from different cultures.
• High level of intercultural communication anxiety: The individual feels intense anxiety and significantly struggles to communicate with people from different cultures.
