Analysis
The Duke-UNC Functional Social Support Questionnaire is a self-assessment tool designed to measure the level and quality of social support an individual receives.
It consists of 8 questions that evaluate two dimensions of social support:
Emotional Support, which refers to the availability of people who can provide love, emotional understanding, and care.
Supportive Social Interaction, which refers to the availability of people who can help with practical issues and provide advice.
Objective
The main objective of the questionnaire is to provide a reliable and valid measurement of the social support received by an individual. This tool is used in both research and clinical applications to understand the impact of social support on mental and physical health and to identify individuals who may need additional social support.
Calibration
Participants are asked to respond to each question using a 5-point Likert scale, ranging from 1 (Never) to 5 (Always).
Total scores are calculated by adding the responses for each dimension and computing the average.
