Analysis
The IRMAS is a tool designed to assess the acceptance of myths and misconceptions related to rape and sexual violence. These myths often reflect erroneous beliefs and prejudices that may justify or minimize the seriousness of sexual violence. The scale analyzes the extent to which participants endorse such myths.
Purpose
The main goals of the IRMAS are to:
Measure Rape Myth Acceptance: Evaluate the degree to which myths that justify or downplay the seriousness of sexual violence are accepted.
Identify Areas of Concern: Highlight domains where acceptance of such myths is high and may require intervention or education.
Explore Correlations: Examine the relationship between rape myth acceptance and other parameters, such as attitudes toward women, exposure to sexist material, or knowledge of sexual violence.
Support Educational and Policy Programs: Provide data that can be used in the development of educational programs and policies aimed at combating sexual violence and misinformation about it.
Calibration
Calibration of the IRMAS includes:
Categorization of Responses: Participants respond to questions related to myths and misconceptions about sexual violence, using scales of agreement or disagreement (e.g., from strong agreement to strong disagreement).
Total Score: A total score is calculated that reflects the level of rape myth acceptance. Higher scores indicate greater acceptance of such myths.
Result Analysis: The relationship is examined between rape myth acceptance and other parameters, such as education, attitudes, and awareness of sexual violence.
