Analysis
The IMSS is a tool designed to evaluate the strategies individuals use to manage and present their identity in various social situations. It includes different scales that measure identity management strategies employed to respond to social expectations, manage one’s image, and handle interpersonal interactions.
Aim
The main aim of the IMSS is to:
Assess identity management strategies: Measure the strategies individuals use to present and manage their identity in social and interpersonal contexts.
Investigate the impact of strategies on interaction: Examine how identity management strategies affect social relationships and interpersonal interactions.
Evaluate the effectiveness of strategies: Assess how effective these strategies are in achieving desired social outcomes and in resolving social challenges.
Support the development of interventions: Provide data for the development of intervention strategies and support programs that help individuals manage their identity and improve their social interactions.
Calibration
The calibration of the IMSS includes:
Categorization of Responses: Participants answer questions related to their identity management strategies, using agreement–disagreement scales, frequency scales, or other measurement methods.
Total Score: A total score is calculated for each identity management strategy (e.g., strategies of presentation, adaptation, or concealment), as well as an overall score reflecting the overall effectiveness of the strategies.
Analysis of Results: The relationship is examined between identity management strategies and social outcomes, as well as their impact on interpersonal relationships and personal satisfaction.
