Analysis
The IHS is a tool designed to measure the degree of internalized homophobia, that is, the negative attitudes and beliefs individuals hold about themselves because of their sexual identity, shaped by social and cultural prejudices against homosexuality. Internalized homophobia can lead to psychological distress, reduced self-esteem, and difficulties in interpersonal relationships.
Aim
The main aim of the IHS is to:
Measure internalized homophobia: Assess the extent to which individuals have adopted negative attitudes toward homosexuality that stem from external social pressures.
Examine the consequences of internalized homophobia: Investigate the impact of internalized homophobia on mental health, self-esteem, and overall well-being.
Support the development of interventions: Provide data for the creation of interventions and support programs aimed at reducing internalized homophobia and strengthening self-acceptance.
Calibration
The calibration of the IHS includes:
Categorization of Responses: Participants respond to questions related to their negative attitudes and beliefs about homosexuality, using agreement–disagreement scales or other measurement methods.
Total Score: A total score is calculated that reflects the level of internalized homophobia. Higher scores indicate greater internalized homophobia.
Analysis of Results: The relationship is examined between levels of internalized homophobia and other parameters, such as mental health, self-esteem, and social support.
