Purpose of the Questionnaire (Scale)
The GalaMotives Motivation Assessment Scale (GMS-30) is primarily intended to systematically evaluate the key motivational factors that influence professional, academic, and personal development. It is designed for adults over 18 years old with a minimum education level of a high school diploma and is used in contexts such as career counseling, organizational psychology, and personal development programs.
Questionnaire (Scale) Analysis
The authors of the scale are S. Gala and R. Motta, and it was published in 2020. The tool consists of 30 questions in a five-point Likert format (1 to 5), and the completion time ranges from 10 to 15 minutes. The scale is structured into four subscales. The Achievement Motivation subscale includes 8 items, with examples such as “I set difficult goals for myself.” The Social Recognition subscale includes 7 items, such as “I value being recognized by others.” The Autonomy subscale contains 7 items, such as “I prefer working independently.” The Intrinsic Satisfaction subscale consists of 8 items, with examples such as “I prioritize tasks that are meaningful to me.”
Scoring of Items
Scoring is carried out separately for each subscale based on the sum of the responses. For the Achievement and Intrinsic Satisfaction subscales, the range is 8 to 40, while for the Social Recognition and Autonomy subscales it is 7 to 35. The interpretation of total scores is expressed as a percentage of the maximum possible sum: scores from 80 to 100% indicate a primary motivational factor, 60 to 79% a significant factor, 40 to 59% a moderate influence, and below 40% a minimal motivator.
Statistical Analysis
Psychometric Properties
The reliability of the scale is particularly high. Internal consistency (Cronbach’s α) is .88 for Achievement, .85 for Social Recognition, .83 for Autonomy, and .87 for Intrinsic Satisfaction. Test-retest reliability after three months is r = .85.
Validity
Construct validity is confirmed with a four-factor structure and statistical indices CFI = .93 and RMSEA = .05. Criterion validity is demonstrated through positive correlations with the Achievement Motivation Inventory (r = .68) and the Career Decision Self-Efficacy Scale (r = .62).
Application & Requirements
The GMS-30 is intended for adults over 18 years of age with a minimum education level of a high school diploma. Its administration requires a degree in Psychology or equivalent certification, as well as expertise in psychometric assessment.
