Questionnaire Analysis

The VIA Inventory of Strengths was developed by Peterson and Seligman (2004) and is based on the Values in Action classification.

Questionnaire Objective

The VIA Inventory of Strengths identifies the positive traits or strengths that influence and guide an individual in daily life.

Question Scoring

The questionnaire consists of 240 items, which describe 24 character strengths. These 24 strengths are: love of learning, fairness, authenticity, self-regulation, bravery, creativity, hope, perseverance, gratitude, zest, leadership, appreciation of beauty, kindness, social intelligence, critical thinking, humility, love, teamwork, curiosity, spirituality, perspective, forgiveness, and prudence.
Responses are given on a 5-point Likert-type scale ranging from 1 (very much like me) to 5 (not at all like me).

Statistical Analysis

Based on the scores from the items corresponding to each strength, a total score is produced for each trait, representing the degree to which that particular strength is present in the individual’s character.

Validity and Reliability

The questionnaire has been translated into Greek using the back-translation method. In the Greek sample, it demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency reliability, with Cronbach’s alpha coefficients for the 24 strengths ranging from 0.70 to 0.85, except for the bravery and self-regulation scales, which had a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.69.
