Purpose of the Scale

The purpose of the questionnaire is to assess the degree of acculturation among Greek immigrants in the United States and to examine the relationship between their level of acculturation and potential psychopathological conditions.

Scale Analysis

The scale was developed by Madianos in 1980. It requires a personal interview. It consists of 31 questions related to the acculturation of values and the organization of society. Scoring begins at 1, representing “Americanization,” and ranges up to 3, 4, or 5, which represents full preservation of the immigrant’s Greek identity. The assessment timeframe covers the past 6 to 12 months.

Scoring and Statistical Analysis

The scale’s score is calculated by summing the scores of each individual item and ranges from 31, indicating the highest level of acculturation, to 114, indicating the lowest level of acculturation.

Validity and Reliability

The internal consistency of the scale was found to be high. Specifically, the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.81.
