Purpose of the Questionnaire
The purpose of the questionnaire is to measure attitudes toward democracy, authority, equality, and multiculturalism.
Questionnaire Analysis
The questionnaire was developed by Meloen, Farnen, and German in 1993. It contains a total of 61 questions. After conducting factor analysis, the authors identified 9 subscales, which assess:
Authoritarianism (F10)
Democratic attitudes (DEMOCAR 8)
Multiculturalism (MCULT 5)
Militarism (MIL 4)
Liberal education (EDLIB 5)
Ethnocentric education (EDNAT 4)
Sympathy toward dictators (DICTATOR)
Sympathy toward reformers (REFORMER)
Self-placement on the right-wing political spectrum (SRIGHT 8)
Scoring and Statistical Analysis
The first 47 questions are scored on a 7-point scale ranging from 1 to 7, where 1 indicates agreement and 7 indicates disagreement.
The remaining questions use a 9-point scale, where 1 corresponds to “admire” and 9 to “dislike.”
Questions 7 to 16 are designed using a 7-point bipolar scale, where respondents are asked to choose the answer that best matches their political beliefs.
Validity and Reliability
The reliability of the questionnaire was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha. The results for each subscale were as follows:
Authoritarianism (F): α = 0.79
Democratic attitudes (DEMOCAR): α = 0.63
Multiculturalism (MCULT): α = 0.56
Militarism (MIL): α = 0.56
Liberal education (EDLIB): α = 0.52
Ethnocentric education (EDNAT): α = 0.59
Dictator sympathy (DICTATOR): α = 0.65
Reformer sympathy (REFORMER): α = 0.69
Right-wing self-placement (SRIGHT): α = 0.70
