Description of the Questionnaire
The questionnaire “Teachers’ Locus of Control” (Measurement of Teachers’ Beliefs in their Control over Student Outcome) consists of 28 statements to which teachers are asked to indicate whether they agree or disagree. The Greek adaptation of the questionnaire was conducted by E. Kalyva and has been used in research samples of primary education teachers.
Data Analysis and Use
The questionnaire demonstrates good face validity. Data analysis has shown a statistically significant correlation between teachers’ locus of control and the professional burnout they experience (r=0.56). The internal consistency reliability for the entire set of statements is α=0.79, while for the morality subscale it is α=0.78.
Purpose
The questionnaire aims to investigate the degree to which teachers feel they have control over what happens in the classroom.
Scoring
Participants are asked to choose one of two possible answers for each statement. The total score ranges from 0 to 28. Low scores indicate an internal locus of control, while high scores indicate an external locus of control.
