Description of the Questionnaire
The Multidimensional Pain Readiness to Change Questionnaire (MPRCQ2) is a tool for assessing the willingness to change behavior in individuals with chronic pain. It is based on the Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change by Prochaska and DiClemente and focuses on areas such as exercise, relaxation, pacing of activities, etc., which are part of a multidisciplinary approach to pain self-management. There are two versions: the MPRCQ2-13, a shortened version with 13 questions, and the MPRCQ2-26, the full version with 26 questions. Responses are given on a 7-point Likert scale, ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 7 (strongly agree).
Data Analysis and Use
Responses are quantitatively analyzed by summing the scores for each area of interest, such as exercise or relaxation. The analysis allows for identifying the stage of change the individual is currently in, guiding the treatment plan based on their readiness to change, and evaluating progress through repeated measurements. The data can also be used for research purposes, to examine correlations between readiness to change and treatment outcomes.
Objective
The aim of the MPRCQ2 is to assess readiness to change behaviors related to chronic pain management. It supports the personalization of treatment by tailoring interventions to the patient’s stage of change, and it promotes self-management by enhancing the patient’s active participation in their treatment.
Scoring
Scoring is based on the Likert scale from 1 to 7 for each item. Higher scores indicate greater willingness to change a specific behavior. Results can be presented either by subscale (in the 26-item version) or as an overall score reflecting general readiness to change. There are no right or wrong answers – the scale captures the individual’s subjective intention.
