Description
The Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score – Short Version (KOOS-PS) is a condensed version of the full KOOS scale. It was designed to offer a quick and efficient evaluation of knee functionality and its impact on the patient’s quality of life, while omitting some of the detailed questions found in the full version.
Analysis
The KOOS-PS retains the core parameters of the full KOOS scale, focusing on:
Pain evaluates the intensity of knee-related pain during daily activities.
Functional Ability assesses the individual’s capacity to perform tasks involving knee use, such as walking and stair climbing.
Symptoms measures the presence and severity of knee-related symptoms such as swelling and stiffness.
Function in Sports and Recreation evaluates the impact of knee condition on sports-related and physical activities.
Quality of Life assesses the overall effect of the knee condition on the individual’s quality of life.
Purpose
The purpose of KOOS-PS is to offer a brief yet effective tool for assessing knee functionality and quality of life without requiring a lengthy evaluation process. It supports the assessment of knee condition in patients with injuries or arthritis and can be used to monitor treatment progress and rehabilitation effectiveness.
Scoring
Scoring for KOOS-PS involves data collection through a short questionnaire completed by the patient, covering key parameters of knee functionality. Responses are scored to calculate a total score reflecting symptom severity and the impact of the knee condition. These scores are compared to standards or data from other patients to evaluate knee status relative to normal function.
