Description
The Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised (EPQ-R) is a revised version of the original Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), developed by Hans Eysenck and Sybil B. G. Eysenck. The EPQ-R assesses four major dimensions of personality: Extraversion, Neuroticism, Psychoticism, and the Lie scale.
Purpose
The main purpose of the EPQ-R is to provide a comprehensive assessment of the fundamental dimensions of personality and to support the understanding of individual differences in psychological and social behavior. It is widely used in psychological research, clinical diagnosis, career selection, and education.
Analysis
The EPQ-R includes four key scales. Extraversion evaluates the individual’s tendency to be sociable, energetic, and outgoing, focusing on preferences for social interaction and external stimulation. Neuroticism measures emotional instability and the tendency to experience anxiety, depression, and sensitivity, emphasizing reactions to stress. Psychoticism assesses tendencies toward aggressiveness, antisocial behavior, and lack of empathy, concentrating on impulsive and nonconforming behaviors. The Lie scale measures the inclination to present oneself in a socially desirable manner, often indicating possible concealment of true feelings or behaviors. This last scale is used to gauge the honesty of the responses.
Scoring
Participants respond to each statement using a Likert-type scale, typically ranging from “Agree” to “Disagree.” The responses are scored, and the total score for each dimension is obtained by summing the relevant items. Higher scores indicate a greater presence of the corresponding personality trait.
