Description

The Emotion Awareness Questionnaire (EAQ) includes items that measure various aspects of emotional awareness. The questionnaire consists of 30 to 40 items, depending on the version, and covers the following dimensions: the ability to recognize and understand one’s own emotions and those of others; how one expresses emotions to others; how comfortable a person feels with their emotions; the ability to analyze and understand the causes and consequences of emotions; sensitivity to the emotional expressions of others; and the ability to assess the intensity and significance of emotions.

Analysis

The analysis of the EAQ responses is based on a Likert scale, usually ranging from 4 to 5 points, where participants rate how much they agree or disagree with each statement. The analysis includes a total score, which sums the scores of all items to provide an overall picture of emotional awareness, and subscales, where each dimension is scored separately to offer detailed information on specific aspects of emotional awareness.

Purpose

The main goals of the EAQ are to assess emotional perception by measuring the ability of children and adolescents to understand and manage their emotions; to support educational and therapeutic interventions by providing information that can be used in developing emotional education or therapy programs; and to promote the development of emotional intelligence in children and adolescents, thereby improving their social and emotional functioning.

Calibration

Calibration of the EAQ includes statistical analysis using statistical methods to evaluate the reliability and validity of the scales. It also involves establishing standardization norms for different age groups and populations.
