Scale Analysis and Purpose
The Altruism Scale (AS) was developed based on the questionnaire by Ahmed and Jackson (1979). The purpose of the scale is to measure the dimension of altruism.
Question Scoring and Statistical Analysis
The scale consists of 8 Likert-type statements, ranging from 1 (Strongly Disagree) to 5 (Strongly Agree), which describe altruistic behavior based on the altruism subscale. The AS asks respondents to indicate the degree to which they agree or disagree with each statement.
The total score is calculated by summing the responses to all 8 items, with higher scores indicating higher levels of altruism.
Validity and Reliability
The Altruism Scale has been adapted into Greek and used within the Greek population, showing adequate internal reliability (α = 0.79).
