Scale Analysis
When it comes to the struggle against the scale, parental support is essential. Parents can provide the guidance, understanding, and encouragement that young individuals need to make healthy life choices and develop positive habits. In today’s society, body image and weight have become increasingly significant issues for many youth. Many adolescents struggle with body image and experience low self-esteem due to pressure to look a certain way. This pressure can lead to unhealthy behaviors such as extreme dieting, binge eating, and excessive exercise.
Purpose
The purpose of this scale is to measure parental support for their children’s efforts to cope with weight-related challenges.
Scoring
The Parental Support for Fighting the Scale Scale (PSFS-10) consists of 10 items, each answered as follows:
0 = YES,
1 = NO.
Statistical Analysis
Scores are assigned as described above. Scores are then summed and divided by the number of items in each subscale. The desired range is from 0 to 1.
Aggressive Solutions: High scores indicate a perception of strong parental support for extreme measures or confrontational responses to conflict.
Non-Aggressive Solutions: High scores indicate a perception of strong parental support for peaceful conflict resolution.
