Analysis

The Stereotypes About AIDS Scale (SAAS) is a tool used to assess prejudices and stereotypes related to AIDS and people living with HIV. The purpose of the scale is to highlight the negative beliefs and biases that individuals may hold about the disease and those living with it.
The scale usually includes questions related to:
Attitudes and Perceptions: How participants view people living with HIV/AIDS, including prejudices and generalizations.
Discrimination and Stigma: Perceptions of the stigma faced by people with HIV/AIDS in society and the types of discrimination they may experience.
Knowledge and Awareness: The level of knowledge and understanding about HIV/AIDS, and how this knowledge influences individuals’ attitudes.
The items of the scale are typically evaluated using a Likert-type scale, where participants indicate their agreement or disagreement with various statements about HIV/AIDS.

Purpose

The main aim of the SAAS is to measure and analyze the stereotypes and prejudices surrounding HIV/AIDS and people living with it. The scale can be used for research purposes as well as for developing interventions aimed at raising awareness and educating people about HIV/AIDS, with the goal of reducing social stigma and discrimination.

Scoring

Scoring of the SAAS is usually done using a Likert scale, where participants rate their agreement with different statements, typically from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). Total scores are derived from the sum or average of responses across the items concerning stereotypes and prejudices. Higher scores usually indicate stronger stereotypes and prejudices, while lower scores indicate fewer prejudices.
