Analysis
The Gender-Equitable Men Scale (GEMS) is a tool that assesses men’s attitudes toward gender equality and the improvement of social norms related to male behavior. The GEMS focuses on evaluating beliefs that either promote or hinder gender equality, with the aim of understanding and improving men’s attitudes toward equality issues.
Purpose
The main goals of GEMS are to:
Assess men’s attitudes toward gender equality: Through GEMS, men’s willingness and ability to support gender equality and to challenge traditional gender stereotypes are analyzed.
Promote social change: It is used to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and interventions aimed at advancing gender equality and combating gender stereotypes.
Support research and theory: It helps in understanding the factors that influence men’s attitudes and in developing strategies for promoting more equitable gender norms.
Scoring
The scoring of the GEMS scale includes:
Categorization of responses: Participants respond to statements based on an agreement scale or other measurement scales.
Total score: A total score is calculated for each participant, reflecting their attitude toward gender equality. Higher scores usually indicate more balanced and equitable attitudes.
Analysis of results: Correlations are examined between the results and other variables, such as social and cultural factors.
