Description of the Questionnaire
The “Immigrant Acculturation Scale” is an original tool designed to examine the degree of acculturation among immigrants living in Greece, focusing on their cultural adjustment and the psychological effects this may entail. The questionnaire includes 23 questions addressing language proficiency (understanding and use of the Greek language), social relationships (participation in associations, social integration), and cultural values. It has already been administered to 150 individuals residing in Greece who visited a central psychiatric institution in Athens. The estimated completion time is between 6 and 12 minutes.
Data Analysis and Usage
Data analysis will involve factor analysis and validation checks of the scale. Additionally, the tool’s reliability will be assessed, and its correlation with indicators of psychological and social adjustment will be explored. The data can support both research and clinical purposes aimed at understanding immigrants’ cultural integration.
Objective
The scale was designed to study the level of acculturation of immigrants living in Greece and to explore the relationship between cultural adaptation and stress-related psychological manifestations.
Scoring
Scoring is based on a quantitative scale where each question is rated numerically, allowing for the calculation of a total score. Low scores indicate limited acculturation and cultural adaptation, while high scores reflect a high degree of integration and adjustment to the host country’s social and cultural environment.
