Purpose of the List

The purpose of the Stress Behaviour Log Time List [SBLTL-20] is to assess observable non-verbal manifestations of anxiety by external observers, which the patient may exhibit during a session with their psychotherapist. The session may take place in person or be video recorded.

List Analysis

The Stress Behaviour Log Time List [SBLTL-20] was developed by Koutsiavtis et al., in 2003. Its creation was based on various non-verbal behaviors that indicate the presence of anxiety. It includes 20 observable anxiety-related behaviors associated with autonomic nervous system responses, such as sweating or rapid breathing, physical signs like posture and positioning of the face and body, as well as the quality of the voice tone and the speech of the individual being evaluated, for example, voice tremors.

Scoring and Statistical Analysis of the List

Scoring is based on whether each examined behavior appears or not within a specific time frame set by the evaluator. The sum of these behaviors provides an overall picture of the anxiety experienced by the patient.

Validity and Reliability of the List

The list demonstrated face validity, content validity, as well as construct validity. Face validity was evaluated through the reviewers’ comments regarding the logical connection of the items to the main goal of the questionnaire. Additionally, inter-rater reliability was quite satisfactory, as a statistically significant correlation was found between the scores given by the four evaluators across the total of 18 assessments conducted.
