Schlichting Test for Language Production-II (STTP-II)

Description

The Schlichting Test for Language Production-II (STTP-II) is a standardized diagnostic instrument designed to assess expressive language development in children aged 2–7 years who are suspected of having language production delays. The test provides a comprehensive evaluation of expressive language by measuring multiple domains, including vocabulary development, sentence production, (semi-)spontaneous language, verbal working memory, phonological working memory, and phonological processing. It consists of five independently administered subtests: Word Development, Sentence Development, Narrative Skills, Pseudowords, and Auditory Memory. The STTP-II is widely used by speech-language pathologists, psychologists, educators, and healthcare professionals for the early identification of language disorders, clinical assessment, and individualized intervention planning.

Data Analysis

Data obtained from the STTP-II are analyzed by calculating total and subtest scores, descriptive statistics, and psychometric properties. Statistical analyses commonly include assessment of internal consistency using Cronbach’s alpha, evaluation of construct validity through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), age-group comparisons, correlation analyses, and regression models examining the relationships between expressive language, cognitive development, phonological processing, literacy skills, and academic performance.

Objective

The primary objective of the Schlichting Test for Language Production-II (STTP-II) is to provide a reliable and comprehensive assessment of children’s expressive language abilities and to identify language production delays or developmental language disorders at an early stage. The instrument supports clinical diagnosis, educational planning, individualized intervention, and the monitoring of language development and treatment outcomes.

Scoring

The STTP-II evaluates children’s performance across its five subtests. Responses are scored according to accuracy, complexity, and quality of language production, and results are compared with age-based normative data. Standardized scores allow clinicians to identify strengths and weaknesses in expressive language, monitor developmental progress, and guide evidence-based intervention planning.
