Description
The Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ) is a tool used to assess treatment outcomes and hand functionality in patients with hand-related issues, such as injuries, surgeries, or chronic conditions. The Dutch version of the MHQ enables its use in Dutch-speaking countries and among Dutch-speaking patients.
Analysis
The Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire evaluates multiple domains, including:
Hand Functionality: How the condition of the hand affects daily activities and the ability to perform them.
Pain: The level of pain associated with the hand.
Sensory Function: Evaluation of sensory disturbances in the hand.
Aesthetics and Appearance: The importance of the hand’s appearance to the patient.
Psychological Impact: The effect of the hand condition on the patient’s psychological well-being.
Objective
The primary goals of the MHQ are:
Functionality Assessment: To provide a quantitative measure of hand function and its impact on daily activities.
Pain Evaluation: To assess the level of pain and its changes over time.
Therapy Monitoring: To assist in tracking the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions and adjusting treatment accordingly.
Scoring
Scoring the Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire includes:
Questionnaire Completion: Patients answer questions related to hand functionality, pain, and other relevant dimensions.
Response Analysis: The responses are scored and analyzed to determine the overall impact of the hand condition on the individual’s quality of life.
Overall Scores: Total scores for each domain are calculated to provide a complete picture of the patient’s hand status.
