Purpose of the Questionnaire (Scale)

The purpose of this scale is to assess satisfaction within marital or partner relationships. It is intended for couples as well as for mental health professionals who evaluate interpersonal relationship dynamics. The tool is widely used both in research and clinical practice, contributing to the understanding and enhancement of relationship quality.

Analysis of the Questionnaire (Scale)

The scale was originally developed by D. Olson, D. Fournier, and J. Druckman and later adapted into Greek by K. Gourounti and F. Anagnostopoulos. It consists of 40 statement items rated on a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly disagree to 5 = Strongly agree). The scale includes four distinct subscales: Satisfaction with the marital/partner relationship, Satisfaction in the sexual domain, Satisfaction with communication, and Value conflicts/divergence of interests/disagreements. Each subscale contains 10 items. The total time required for completion is approximately 10 minutes.

Scoring of the Items

Participants respond to each statement by selecting a rating from 1 to 5. The scale includes both positively and negatively worded items. Each subscale score is calculated by summing the scores of its respective items. Higher scores indicate greater satisfaction, or in the case of the fourth subscale, greater levels of conflict or divergence.

Statistical Analysis

The Greek version was preliminarily standardized using a sample of 50 women who participated in individual intake sessions within the clinical practicum of the Health Psychology postgraduate program at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The average participant age was 37.6 years. The mean duration of the current relationship was 41.32 months (SD = 47.20), while the mean duration of the most recent marriage was 40.22 months (SD = 7.55). For the fourth subscale, the mean score was 42.28 (SD = 6.41). The highest mean score was recorded in the subscale assessing satisfaction with the marital/partner relationship.

Validity of the Questionnaire (Scale)

Exploratory factor analysis indicated that the four subscales have good construct validity. The items conceptually and empirically align with the dimensions they aim to assess, confirming the structure and accuracy of the tool in evaluating relationship satisfaction.

Reliability of the Questionnaire (Scale)

The reliability of the subscales, measured by Cronbach’s alpha, was as follows: 0.70 for the marital/partner satisfaction subscale, 0.72 for the sexual satisfaction subscale, 0.84 for the communication satisfaction subscale, and 0.71 for the value conflict subscale. These values indicate satisfactory internal consistency.
