Description of the Questionnaire

The HEXACO-PI-R is a validated psychometric tool developed by Kibeom Lee, Ph.D., and Michael C. Ashton, Ph.D., designed to assess six major dimensions of personality: Honesty–Humility, Emotionality, Extraversion, Agreeableness (versus Anger), Conscientiousness, and Openness to Experience. The questionnaire consists of 100 statements that the respondent is asked to rate according to their level of agreement on a 5-point Likert scale: 1 = Strongly disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Neither agree nor disagree, 4 = Agree, 5 = Strongly agree.

Objective

The objective of the HEXACO-PI-R is to provide a holistic assessment of personality based on an advanced six-factor model. The tool is widely used in psychological research, clinical assessments, business environments (e.g., personnel selection), as well as in education and career guidance. The model is based on cross-cultural research and is considered more comprehensive than the traditional Five-Factor Model (Big Five).

Data Analysis and Use

Data collected from the HEXACO-PI-R are analyzed using specific statistical procedures. Some items are negatively worded and require reverse scoring. The 100 items are categorized into six main dimensions, each with relevant subscales. Analysis involves calculating the mean or sum of responses for each dimension. Results can then be compared with demographic variables or population norm data. Analysis can be conducted manually (e.g., using Excel), through statistical software such as SPSS, R, or Python, or using tools available through the official website of the instrument.

Scoring

Scoring begins by entering responses using the 5-point scale. Reverse scoring is applied to negatively phrased statements. For each dimension, either the sum or the average of the corresponding items is calculated. A higher score in a given dimension indicates a stronger presence of the corresponding personality trait. Interpretation is based on comparing the scores with normative data, providing a comprehensive personality profile for the individual being assessed.
